What can my kids do at the Cully Collective Market?

The market will have a designated area where kids can do crafts. Kids can also participate at the Community Tables if they grow and/or make anything and would like to trade or sell it. We also have an event space where children can participate in schedule open-mic times, or participate in a music, dance, drama, or cultural performance that has been scheduled ahead of time. Please contact us if you have any additional questions.

How did the market get started?

In September of 2009, the Hollywood Farmers’ Market received a grant from New Seasons that enabled them to run The Oasis Project, a mobile market located in the Cully neighborhood each Saturday for four weeks. This project initiated a group of residents to ask, “How can we make a long-term market a reality in our neighborhood, and what would such a market look like?”

In October 2009 we applied to Central NE Neighbors Small Grants Program to acquire funding in order to support a community process to answer these questions, and to make the Cully Collective Market a physical reality. Since September 2009, residents have been meeting to determine market logistics, to implement organizational and market structures, and to reach out to the community to make our market a collective process.

In February and March of 2010, we conducted a community survey to the neighborhood to get input regarding what Cully residents want to see at their market. The results are being taken into account as the structure and logistics of the market take form.

In March of 2010, we confirmed the location of the market. Trinity Lutheran Church, located on NE Killingsworth and 55th, has graciously welcomed the Cully Collective Market to use its grounds each Saturday this season. The Market will be held on Saturdays from 9:30am-1:30pm, starting on July 10th.

How can I connect with my neighbors at the Cully Collective Market?

You will be connecting with your neighbors throughout the market! You can meet neighbors at the Community Tables, at the Event Space, and at the Community Board, where neighbors post all sorts of notes to enable connections with each other, whether it’s about learning a language, trading childcare for yardwork, or finding out about events and happenings in the neighborhood.
